Pristine Views of the Toiyabe Mountain Range

Now is the perfect time of year for a trip down Highway 50 to experience the awesome winter beauty of Nevada. Travelers are treated to breathtaking scenery as they approach the Shoshone Mountain Range, heading east towards Austin and the middle of the silver state. Ascending Ione Summit, a mountain pass across the Shoshone Range, the Reese River Valley and snow-covered Toiyabe Range come into view. This panorama is truly epic!

From Ione Summit the highway drops into the expansive Reese River Valley. This section of Highway 50 is really special. The Shoshone Mountains rise steeply at the western edge of the valley, the Toiyabe Mountains tower across the eastern edge, and the Reese River runs through the middle of the valley.

Of course you’ll want to spend some time in historic Austin, grab a bite to eat, and maybe spend a night or two. Views from nearby Stokes Castle are excellent, and the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce has an ample supply of maps and brochures for everything to see and do around Austin.
