On December 17th at 6:00 pm, the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce and the citizens of Austin are once again hosting their annual Christmas celebration. This is always a festive evening and a great way to get into the holiday spirit. Following the Live Nativity, hot chocolate and cookies will be served at the Austin Fire House to warm everyone up and get in the mood for the Turkey raffle. Tickets for the raffle are available at local businesses in Austin, and are free for every $5.00 of merchandise bought (you MUST BE present to win.) We're also sponsoring a canned food drive for those who need extra help during the Holidays, so please bring your canned goods or non-perishable items to the Fire House before the Nativity. For more information, please call 775-964-2200 or visit austinnevada.com.

Plan a trip to Austin on September 14th for our annual Prospectors Dream Wine Walk. This is truly a unique experience where wine lovers can enjoy both a sip of wine and a taste of our town. The walk begins at 2:00 PM at the Austin Museum and continues on to several locations along our historic Main Street. A hay wagon will pick everyone up at 5:00 and take them to Stokes Castle for a sunset dinner. Following dinner, we’ll make a toast with special souvenir wine glasses, then ride back to town. It’s time to take a taste of Austin! Tickets are available at the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce office for $25.00 and includes the wine walk and dinner. For sunset dinner only, the cost is $10.00. For more information, please call 775-964-2200 or visit austinnevada.com

When you travel to Austin on Highway 50, don’t be surprised to see a black, silhouetted figure of a galloping Pony Express rider. These metallic sculptures are strategically placed along the old Pony Express Trail, and are a great tribute to these brave riders.
The one in this photograph can be seen near Austin, and celebrates the colorful and rich history of the town and its location along the Pony Express Trail. For more photos of Austin, visit our Flickr photo page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/austinnevada/

Long before the Internet, the Lincoln Highway began connecting us 100 years ago when it became America’s first paved coast-tocoast road for the automobile paralleling many parts of the Pony Express route. Nevada’s section of Lincoln Highway is Highway 50 running east to west through the heart of the State known as America’s Loneliest Road in Nevada’s Pony Express Territory.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary oLincoln Highway, the communities along Nevada’s historic Highway 50, including Austin, are rewarding travelers with complimentary commemorative coffee mugs during the month of June. You can pick up your Austin mug at the Austin Courthouse/Austin Chamber, on 122 Main Street. We’re open on Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
