I'm looking forward to visiting your town on the OATBRAN bicycle ride. We will be riding from Stateline NV to Baker NV, stopping in Austin on Tuesday, the 16th.
I have my 'Surviving Hwy 50' book ready. Please drive safe and watch out for us out on the road.

Spencers Hot Springs
GPS N39 19.637 W116 51.436
Six miles southeast of junction of SR376 & US50
Road factor/Accessability - Graded dirt/gravel
Spencers Hot Springs is in Smokey Valley about 13 miles from Austin, it is located on BLM land and is FREE!!!!!!
It has been mentioned in several blogs sites for hotsprings enthusiasts, and is a great way to spend some time while you're traveling across Highway 50. Spend a couple days in Austin and visit Spencers!!!

Buy your beers in Austin and go out to Spencers and have a suds and soaks party!

I left Austin in May of 1985, the day after graduation. I couldn't wait to leave and have never been back, even when I lived in Elko and worked in Carlin.

Maturity softens things. The reasons for my unhappiness during those times have all been resolved. I find myself now telling my children the stories of the good times in Austin, recalling events with wonderful people.

I wouldn't trade my experience in Austin for anything. Now I hope that one day I can return for a visit, this time with a smile on my face.

Love the web site! Makes me homesick. I was there briefly a couple months ago on a side trip returning from China. Things looked pretty quiet. I'm sorry I didn't get to visit more old friends. I just wanted to post a note to tell the tourists to be sure and check out Gridley Days this month. Maybe the Chamber can tell us when that is. Also, the fourth of July rocks in Austin. I wish I could make it down but I'll be staying put for awhile. Miss you guys!

My husband's family come from Austin, Nevada. We would like to find out how to get the history records of the Austin catholic church, hospital or cemetery. Any suggestions? Does anyone remember George "Barr" Francis or Walter Francis, Frank Andrew Francis? We would like to talk with you. 801-475-0180

For Marcy--I know there are a few people left in Austin who would remember Walter Francis...I do, as a kid growing up there. If you don't get any responses contact me at ga24081@gmail.com.
